What do Calmdogs® Active Hip & Joint Chews contain, and what are they for?
They are a complementary pet feed containing glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM, together with antioxidant vitamins C and E. Every active is quantified per 2.5 g chew rather than hidden inside a blend: glucosamine HCl 250 mg, MSM 178.58 mg, chondroitin sulfate 96.4 mg, vitamin C 71.43 mg and vitamin E 14.29 mg. They are fed as nutritional support for normal joint function as part of a balanced routine, not as a treatment for any joint condition.
How many chews a day should I give my dog?
The feeding guide is banded by body weight: 1 soft chew daily up to 25 lbs (11 kg), 2 soft chews daily from 26 to 75 lbs (12 to 34 kg), and 3 soft chews daily over 75 lbs (35 kg and up). Start with half the recommended amount for the first few days and build up. Chews can be given together or split between morning and evening.
Where do the glucosamine and chondroitin come from?
The glucosamine is shellfish-derived and the chondroitin is porcine. That matters if your dog has a known shellfish sensitivity or your household avoids pork. The flavour base is chicken and duck, so these chews are not suitable for a chicken-sensitive dog. This differs from the Calmdogs calming chews, which are turkey-based.
Are there any dogs that should not be given these chews?
Safe use in pregnant animals, or animals intended for breeding, has not been established, and caution is advised in dogs with hyperthyroid disease. They are also unsuitable for dogs with a chicken sensitivity because of the flavour base, and worth checking if your dog has a known shellfish sensitivity. Speak to your vet before feeding any supplement to a dog that is unwell or on medication.
Are Calmdogs® Active Hip & Joint Chews a veterinary medicine or a treatment for arthritis?
No. They are a complementary pet feed, not a veterinary medicine. They do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease or joint conditions, and they cannot reverse joint damage that has already occurred. Arthritis is a veterinary diagnosis requiring veterinary management, alongside which a feed may have a place. If your dog is limping, holding a leg up, yelping or has changed suddenly, see your vet rather than starting a supplement.

No more struggling up stairs

She used to hesitate going up the stairs, proper worrying. Now she’s up and down like normal again. Didn’t expect it to work this well.

Back to his old self

Our older dog was getting a bit stiff on walks. After a couple of weeks on these, he’s moving loads better. Even wants to play again. Buzzing.
