The Calmdogs® Calming Collar is a pheromone collar. It slowly releases a synthetic version of the appeasing pheromone that mother dogs give off when nursing their puppies, made from a blend of fatty acids. You put it on, leave it on, and replace it every 60 days.

It is non-sedating, so your dog stays their normal self. Used alongside a steady routine and reward-based training, it may help some dogs settle more easily on car journeys, at the vet or in a new home. Results vary from dog to dog.

Key features

Up to 60 days per collar: worn continuously, one collar lasts up to two months.
Non-sedating: it will not make your dog drowsy or dull.
Adjustable fit: fits necks up to 27". Trim the spare length for a neat fit.
Made to stay on: designed to be worn day and night.
Check the fit on small dogs: on toy breeds and dogs with slim or flat necks, check the fit and your dog's comfort over the first few days, and loosen or remove the collar if it rubs.

When to speak to a professional

If your dog is distressed when left alone, or frightened of fireworks or thunder, talk to your vet or a qualified behaviourist. A calming collar can sit alongside the plan they give you, but it is not a replacement for it.

How long does the calming effect of the Calmdogs Calming Collar last?

One collar is worn continuously and replaced every 60 days. It releases a synthetic appeasing pheromone from a fatty-acid blend the whole time it is on, so there is nothing to top up or re-apply in between.

Is the Calmdogs Calming Collar safe for dogs who tend to be very active?

It is designed to be worn day and night, including during play, and it adjusts to necks up to 27 inches. One customer has told us the material felt too stiff for a chihuahua, so on toy breeds and dogs with slim or flat necks, check the fit over the first few days and loosen or remove it if it rubs.

Can the collar help with anxiety caused by loud noises like fireworks or thunder?

Not on its own. The collar is worn continuously and is non-sedating, and some owners use one as part of a routine around fireworks season. Genuine noise fear in a dog is a recognised problem that responds to a plan from your vet or a qualified behaviourist, including preparation well before the event, and a collar is not a substitute for that.

Will the collar make my dog feel drowsy or sedated?

No. It is non-sedating: it will not make your dog drowsy or dull, and they stay their normal self. It releases a scent, not a sedative.

How do I adjust the collar to fit my dog properly?

The collar is adjustable to fit neck sizes up to 27 inches. Simply place it around your dog’s neck, leave room to fit two fingers comfortably between the collar and neck, buckle it, and trim any excess length for a custom fit.
