Description
A spare 85g (3oz) can of citronella spray for refilling a spray training collar. Roughly 300 to 400 sprays per can. The Auto collar holds about 25 sprays per fill, so one can works out at somewhere between twelve and sixteen refills.
Will it fit my collar?
It fits most citronella spray collars, including all three of ours. What decides it is the nozzle, not the brand — check the nozzle design against the third product image before ordering, and ask us if you are not sure.
How to refill, from the can's own label
- Turn the collar off.
- Stand the collar's tank on a solid surface with its nozzle facing upward.
- Hold the refill can vertically and place its needle into the tank's nozzle, pressing down firmly.
- Depress for five seconds, watching that liquid is actually going into the tank.
- Depress for a further ten seconds.
The order matters: the tank sits nozzle-up on the surface and the can goes on top of it, held upright. Refilling with the can tipped over is the usual reason a fill does not take.
What is in it
- Tetrafluoroethane 99.2% — the propellant
- Citronella 0.8% — the scent
The scent is lemongrass-like and does not stain fabric. It is the smell and the hiss that interrupt the dog, not discomfort — the spray is not an irritant and there is no shock or static involved anywhere in this system.
Worth knowing before you order
Keep the can away from heat and direct sunlight and do not pierce or burn it, as with any pressurised can. Store it upright.
A spray collar interrupts a bark that is already happening. It does not address why the dog started, and it is not the answer for a dog who barks or panics because they have been left alone — that is distress rather than a training problem, and it is worth speaking to your vet or a qualified behaviourist before buying equipment.
